GDMBR day 31 – Tuesday, August 15, 2023

Total miles – 1133.80 Total ascent – 74,976 ft

Lots of rolling hills with a few long and steep ones thrown in. Luckily we had a tailwind most of the way.

South Pass was once a very important city, now mostly a ghost town

We are traveling much of the same route as the Pony Express, the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, and the Pioneer Trail.

We all stopped for lunch in the tiny hamlet of Atlantic City, Wyoming. The waitress was quite flustered to have so many people show up at once.

Our lunch spot
It was a popular place

How does your body feel at this midpoint? Have there been many mechanical issues for anyone? Is it everything you expected?

The last two days have been higher mileage so my knees feel creaky. I need to do some stretching. I haven’t had any mechanical issues, but boy the mud could cause some serious damage. Luckily we haven’t had too much. Overall I am fatigued from the cumulative effect which I mostly notice on shorter uphills. I will tell you all about the other idiosyncrasies when I see you. Miss you.

Hey, we went to South Pass in search of Old grooves in the rock from the wagons. Cool! We never found any but there is a book saying where they are.
So glad you’ve perked up and continuing on. You gotta feel proud. We do!

Wow, so you’ve been through the Great Basin. I didn’t see any grooves from wagons either but I wasn’t looking. Thanks for all your encouragement 🥰
