GDMBR day 55 – Friday, September 8, 2023

Total miles – 2135.55 Total ascent – 145,704 ft

We left the Cuban Lodge this morning. The town of Cuba rivals Ephrata, which isn’t saying much. Not a place to spend any vacation time.

Reminiscent of the motel in Ephrata!

We biked on the highway for 10 miles. At about mile 8 D’Arcy got a flat tire from a piece of metal wire. We successfully plugged it up and we’re on our way in no time. Not more than a mile later I got a flat from a screw in my tire. Damn highway litter! We got that plugged up as well. Then we turned onto a dirt road that was very sandy.

The “Sombrero” in the distance

Luckily the deep sand didn’t last that long. Riding in deep sand is tricky, your bike swerves in weird ways. The rest of the ride was smoother but got hotter as the day went on.

The sombrero closer up. We dubbed it that ourselves.
