GDMBR days 19 & 20, Thursday, August 3-Friday, August 4, 2023

Total miles- 713.80 Total ascent- 51,568 ft

Dad’s Cabin to Lima, MT

On Wednesday night I had an anxiety attack and it freaked me out because I couldn’t talk to Erika( no cell service). For the whole ride on Thursday I was pretty sure I was going to quit the ride and go home. Not many pictures from the day because I wasn’t in the mood.

I did manage this cool sunrise
D’Arcy at the top of Medicine Lodge and Sheep Creek Divide, not the Continental Divide but a good climb nonetheless

We rode through a beautiful canyon with lots of rock formations. Sorry I didn’t get any pictures ☹️

We arrived in the town of Lima( pronounced like Lima bean), population 220. I finally was able to talk to Erika and she calmed me down and suggested I continue the ride. She calls it my “pilgrimage” and says a pilgrimage always has ups and downs- literally and figuratively. I felt much better after talking to her and I’m glad I’m not going to throw in the towel so quickly.

Jen, Sarah, and I also booked a motel room which was fortunate because it’s been a little rainy.

Today, Friday, was a much needed rest day. We all took the van and had a field trip into the bigger town of Dillon, 46 miles away.

Dillon has a Patagonia outlet store, I didn’t buy anything
Cool roving display in a yarn store
We had lunch at a Mexican taco bus

We had dessert at a Mexican ice cream shop. This is a mangoeada, mango sherbert with fresh mango, some sort of chili lime sauce and lots of gummy candies on top. I didn’t eat the gummies but the rest was yummy.

Just two more days in Montana and then we are into Idaho!

I’m so proud of you. Way to overcome and persevere. This is a trip of a lifetime and I know you got this 100%. Rest when you need it and don’t make decisions at the end of a hard day. Get a good night’s rest, we know things are always a little better in the morning. You, above anyone else I know, can do anything. You are amazing and I know you will overcome the doubts that seep in. You are what a strong woman looks like. I love you and miss you!!!!
