GDMBR day 23 – Monday, August 7, 2023

Total miles – 839.09 Total ascent – 54,624 ft

Todays ride was a gem. We headed south on an old rail trail. Mostly flat or downhill, nice recovery for the legs.

The only issue was that the trail was very sandy and the sand was thick in places. My front wheel took a dive into a thick patch and off the bike I went. I bruised my right ribs slightly but am able to ride without any problems.

The sandy trail

We eventually came to the Warm River, which we rode high above.

Snapdragons and coreopsis
Nice rock formations
Abandoned tunnel
The way around the tunnel
More of the Warm River
Camp at the Warm River campground
Dinner prep
Taking refuge from a thunderstorm

The last three miles of trail were so delightful- flat, lush and a smooth surface. I didn’t want the ride to end which is not how I usually feel by the end of the ride.

We are staying at the beautiful Warm River Campground. The river isn’t actually warm but it is pretty. Tomorrow we ride out of Idaho and into Wyoming.
